Pitchin Ain’t Easy – Week 20 (Aug 7 – Aug 13) Two-start pitchers

This week’s group of pitchers are pretty lackluster in my opinion. Of course we have the big  guns like Mad Max and the C-Mart, but beyond the must-starts and a few upper tiers, we don’t have that much to be excited about.

See, that’s where I come in! At the end of the two start list, check out the 3 highlighted pitchers that could do some magic next week and will for sure be available on the wire. Let’s get at it — here are the two start pitchers for week 20.

*These are based off of current rotations as of August 4th. These are subject to change and will be updated accordingly*

ADDED: Sale, C.Martinez, Strasburg, Carrasco, Bundy, Sabathia, Happ, Montero

REMOVED: Stroman, Gausman, Bauer, G.Gonzalez, Weaver, Stephenson, Flexen, Hellickson

*Park rating: Green = Pitcher friendly, Red = Hitter Friendly, No color = Neutral*

Trevor Williams, PIT – 4.53 ERA – 1.32 WHIP – 65 Ks

Trevor Williams has been a valuable streaming asset for the Pirates most of the season. He has quality starts in 4 of his last 7 games, while allowing more than 2 runs only 3 times. His key attribute is that he is a ground ball pitcher (1.01 groundball to flyball ratio). He limits pitches in the air, and even better, limits pitches hit out of the park (0.9 HR/9). Although Williams doesn’t have the greatest of matchups with Detroit at home and Toronto on the road, he has been doing great for a surging Pirates team. I would take the risk and see what he can do.

Parker Bridwell, LAA – 2.83 ERA – 1.19 WHIP – 34 Ks

I do not know who this kid is but damn, he’s been hot as hell since being moved into the rotation on May 30th. The thing is, this the Los Angeles Trouts, and they are pretty bad at baseball, so I do believe he is pitching out of his league; for now though, he is worth throwing in the lineup. Over his last 6 starts, Bridwell has pitched 6 innings minimum in all of them while averaging 2 earned runs; this would be lower, but he allowed 5 runs to the Mariners on June 30th. I could go more into depth about this, but Marc covers Parker Bridwell in his Can I Kick it article this week; check that out for a more indepth look.

**Luke Weaver, StL – 4.50 ERA – 1.38 WHIP – 7 Ks

Alright, I am a huge believer in the youth movement (article about young studs to come soon), so I have to include righty Luke Weaver in my selections this week. Weaver is one of two Cardinals pitchers (Alex Reyes is the other one) who are regarded as top tier pitching prospects. When Wainwright went down with a back injury, Luke finally got moved into the starting rotation. His first matchup was a little crappy (5 innings pitched allowing 4 runs with 2 walks and 5 Ks), but I am hoping that it was just some jitters. His minor league numbers are absolutely fantastic (1.96  ERA and 9.4 K/9 through 13 starts in AAA), so we know he has the stuff to be a menace on the hill — it’s just waiting for it to arrive that’s the problem. When this article was originally written, Weaver was scheduled for a two start. However, bandaid Adam Wainwright is coming off the DL so the Cards moved Luke back to AAA. I am going to keep this write up on Weaver up though because I believe he will be back, and people must take notice.

Now that it’s August let’s hope Luke Weaver isn’t the only young pitcher we will be talking about! There is a shit ton of great pitching prospect out there, all ready for some dominate two starts. Check back next week to see which new young faces are making there debut on our Two start list!
