Top add/drops are here! I apologize for not posting yesterday but I didn’t get any reception out on the BC roads. I figured I should still post the list, even though those people in a weekly lineup are unable to actually benefit from these guys this week. Anyways, Here are the top 5 add/drops for week 20.
Tim Beckham, SS/2B +28.5% – Current Ownership = 38.0%
Beckham has been a force in the month of July going 15-for-28 with 3 homeruns and 6 RBIs. Since becoming an Oriole, Tim has found the swing that made him a number one draft pick back in 2008. If you need a hot bat, Mr.Beckham is your man
Shane Greene, RP +21.9% – Current Ownership = 38.8%
When Justin Wilson was traded away to the Cubs, Greene finally was able to step into the closer role for the Tigers. Oh baby has he been lights out! He has converted 3 consecutive save opportunities since the trade was made and seems to be moving up the closer rankings. With a 2.54 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, look for Greene to rack up a bunch of saves the rest of the season.
Alex Bregman, 3B/SS +21.7% – Current Ownership = 82.4%
After a somewhat disappointing start to the season, Bregman has been red hot as of late. In his last 27 games Bregman is batting .351 with 14 RBIs, 6 stolen bases and 28 runs. Being apart of the potent Houston offense has made Bregman a solid fantasy asset. If he is on the wire, grab him immediately.
Hyun-Jin Ryu, SP +21.4% – Current Ownership = 39.0%
Over his past 22.2 innings, Ryu has allowed only 6 total runs and struck out an impressive 23 batters. He plays for a Dodgers team that has been unstoppable so that keeps his value decently high. With a 4-6 record and a 3.53 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 17 starts, Hyun-Jin can be a sneaky fantasy steal for a late season push.
Trevor Rosenthal, RP +19.0% – Current Ownership = 54.4%
Rosenthal has finally become the clear cut closer for the Cardinals. He has allowed a grand total of 8 hits since the beginning of July and has converted his last 4 save attempts with ease. If you’re in need of a closer and Trevor is available, grab him now.
Chris Owings, SS/2B/OF -32% – Current Ownership = 18.9%
Truly not much to say here. Owings will be on the shelf for a minimum of 8 weeks after undergoing finger surgery last Monday. There are many different options for middle infield (see Tim Beckham above). Drop him and find someone who is surging.
Mike Clevinger, SP -23% – Current Ownership = 25.7%
I’m not really sure if Clevinger is worth actually dropping right now. He was moved into the bullpen for this upcoming week while the Indians role with a four man rotation. His last 3 starts have been pretty bad (13 runs allowed in 8.1 innings pitched) but he was rock solid before that. Give him the week to take a load off and hopefully he will be back into the swing of things next week.
Scott Schebler, OF -16.5% – Current Ownership = 22.1%
Schebler will be missing a few weeks with a bruised left rotator cuff. If you feel like it you can move him into your DL and see what happens. I would drop him and look for other options in the outfield though.
Brandon Kintzler, RP -15.3% – Current Ownership = 15.3%
Kintzler has been dropped because of his recent trade to the Nationals. In my personal opinion, I would hold onto Brandon for a few more weeks because I think he will ultimately become the closer in D.C. Although he doesn’t strike out many guys, his ERA and WHIP are great and should lead the Nats into giving him a few save opportunities if Doolittle stumbles.
Justin Wilson, RP -13.6% – Current Ownership = 27.2
It has been a sad trade deadline for closers. Many guys were traded to teams that frankly didn’t need them for their closing abilities. Mr. Wilson is one of those guys. He will mostly be used in high leverage situations or as a setup man but Wilson’s fantasy value has gone down the shitter. You can drop him.
There you have it! The current top 5 add/drops according to ESPN. Sorry again for the late post but the lake and some ice cold memories pushed the release date to today. Check back next Monday for another Add/drop session!
