Two-Start Thursdays! Playoffs Round 2

ROUND 2! Hopefully your playoffs are going in the right direction and you’re looking for the next round of two-starters who are going to help you progress to the finals of your league. With the expanded rosters it is kind of tough to predict starting pitching from week to week, guys are being inserted into the lineup randomly and tend to mess up other players two-starts.

Keep this in mind when deciding who is going to lead you to the promise land!

With that, here are the two-start pitchers for round 2 of the playoffs.

*These are based off of current rotations as of September 8th. These are subject to change and will be updated accordingly*

*Park rating: Green = Pitcher friendly, Red = Hitter Friendly, No color = Neutral*

**Adam Wainwright, StL vs.CIN – Sept 12 @ChC – Sept 17

** Wainwright is on the DL and might not make a return to the line up. Check his updates.

Robert Stephenson, CIN – 5.15 ERA – 1.69 WHIP – 69 Ks

Stephenson is the definition of raw talent, the kid throws heat and mixes in a nice variety of off speed pitches. In his past 4 outings Robert has collected 4 wins and has allowed just 6 runs over 22.2 innings (2.38 ERA). One concerning stat is the amount of free passes the young stud gives up – 15 walk in has past 4 starts – but he has countered this with 28 strikeouts in as many games. I think he is going to regress a but he should be a solid fantasy starter, especially in a two-start week.

Sean Manaea, OAK – 4.33 ERA – 1.37 WHIP – 126 Ks

In the past 4 outings, Sean has rattled off 3 quality starts – 2 back-to-back – and seems to be finding his groove. Through those 4 starts he owns a 3.04 ERA and 1.39 WHIP but should look to get is K rate up a bit more (5.5 K/9). Manaea has the stuff to be a great starter in the bigs but has been very hot and cold this season. With this stretch of good outings, I think he is getting back on track and should be trusted in his two- start week.

Garrett Richards, LAA – 1.13 ERA – 1.13 WHIP – 7 Ks

Richards is an absolute game changer on the mound – when he is healthy. So far this season, that has not been the case for Garrett as he has been held out of majority of the season with injury (bicep). His first start after rehab went pretty smooth – 1 earned run on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts – but he only went 3.1 innings and 52 pitches. Feel free to take the chance on Richards as he owns an electric fastball and when he’s on, is an elite starter. Very high risk, with a high reward.

And there we have it! Hopefully this will give you enough selection to find that winning player for the next round of the playoffs. I am deploying Manaea, Gray, Lopez and will be looking to add one or two more two-staters to round out my rotation.

Check in next week for this seasons LAST edition of Two-Start Thursdays!
